So it's the end of the year and you know what that means, Chemistry is coming to an end. Lots of cool projects and some of them are Poison and Toxins project, SWPPP project, and the Chem Demo talks. The Poison and toxins project is where we had to either choose a poison or toxin to research. This project you could have done it with a partner or without, I did it with a partner. My partner was Mercedez Espinoza and we had to create an ad promoting our poison or toxin we choose. We choose nicotine . Nicotine is a very well known drug so researching more about the drug was very interesting. Knowing it was a highly addictive drug stood out to us because we really never knew why it was so popular. We soon found that when you consume the drug, it leads to the release of the chemical dopamine which can affect your brain. Making the ad was a good process because we looked up different Nicotine ads, so it inspired us. We also did the SWPPP in this project we interned with the city of San Marcos. We focused mostly on our storm drain system on campus. We tested to see if our water had any Nitrates or Nitrites. We also tested if the rainwater went directly into our storm drain. My group and I had the turf drain and our drain was very well maintained. During the SWPPP project we had to make a mini project and I choose to be a part of a mural and since it was the end of the year we only had a couple days. Chem Demo talks we had to choose an experiment and I choose to make soap. I did three trials of soap and added extra lye and coconut oil and I did this project with Mercedez Espinoza. Chemistry was hard but at the same time kind of easy and it overall taught me alot.
